Supplementation of either 60g whey protein, 60g colostrum, or a combination of 20g colostrum with 40g whey, in elite cyclists over the course of eight weeks noted that performance on a weighted cycling test (similar to Wingate) failed to have any difference between groups (despite all groups improving by about 4% relative to baseline) although in a 2 hour endurance test there was an improvement of 132s and 158s in the colostrum groups (difference not significant) which were both greater than the whey only group at 37s.


Randomised Controlled Trial Of Colostrum To Improve Intestinal Function In Patients With Short Bowel Syndrome

In patients with short bowel syndrome, supplementation of colostrum (250mL of a beverage containing 26.5g protein; control of skim milk and protein) for four weeks failed to outperform placebo protein in improving nutritive status and protein absorption and underperformed for increasing weight and lean mass. Power output (assessed by handgrip strength) was not different between groups but increased with protein in general.

Meal-induced GLP-2 secretion was not different between groups.

Lean mass increased with colostrum relative to baseline, but was similar to the increase seen with whey protein.
