576mg Green Tea Catechins were consumed daily by obese or near-obese schoolchildren in Japan for 24 weeks. Control group had 70mg catechins.

Results were insignificant until compared against median baseline stats, in which the higher catechin group was significantly more effective than the low catechin group in reducing LDL and waist circumference.

Good safety profile established.


Prospective Double-blind Crossover Study Of Camellia Sinensis (green Tea) In Dyslipidemias

In a crossover design, 33 subjects on a low fat diet (25-35% intake) were given 250mg Green Tea Catechins via capsule for 8 weeks.

A 3.9% reduction in Total cholesterol and a 4.5% reduction in LDL were noted, with no significant changes in HDL-C or Triglycerides.


Effect Of 2-month Controlled Green Tea Intervention On Lipoprotein Cholesterol, Glucose, And Hormone Levels In Healthy Postmenopausal Women

EGCG as PolyPhenon-E was given in either 400mg or 800mg daily for 2 months, no hormonal effects in post-menopausal women and significant reductions in LDL cholesterol were seen.

Reductions in blood glucose and insulin were nonsignificant when compared to baseline, but placebo increased. The difference between placebo and EGCG groups was statistically significant.

No significant differences between 400mg and 800mg.


Effect Of Green Tea Extract On Obese Women: A Randomized, Double-blind, Placebo-controlled Clinical Trial

Green tea catechins at 491mg daily over a period of 3 months was unable to produce significant weight loss (0.3% bodyweight) but was able to modify markers of lipid metabolism in a beneficial manner.
