In a pilot but blinded study, supplementation of 2,400mg of N-acetylcysteine daily to nicotine addicted smokers (continuing nicotine administration) noted that after two weeks there was a trend to reduce the number of cigarettes smoked daily. Although the magnitude was not given (and cigarettes smoked changing based on the day of the week) the magnitude of reduction appeared to be around 25%.
